Stretch marks

What are they?
• Stretch marks are scars that appear on the skin as red “lines.” They are caused by a thinning of the skin in areas where it has been stretched.

• When they first appear, they are reddish or purplish, but they fade over time and become almost transparent or white.

• They are very common and normal during puberty and affect about 70% of female adolescents and 40% of male adolescents.

• They may appear on the thighs, hips, buttocks, stomach, upper and lower back, breasts, upper arms, etc.
