What is it?
Direct or indirect?
Bullying can be direct or indirect.

Direct bullying

Direct bullying occurs in the presence of the victim through words and actions clearly directed at the person. For example:

• Pushing
• Hitting
• Stealing someone’s things
• Making fun of someone
• Insulting someone
• Damaging or destroying someone’s things
• Acting in a way intended to humiliate or threaten someone

Indirect bullying

Indirect bullying occurs when the victim is not present, or behind their back; the violent behaviour is hidden, masked and hard to identify. For example:

• Excluding or rejecting someone
• Ignoring or cutting off contact with someone
• Spreading rumours and lies about someone
• Ruining someone’s reputation
• Playing tricks on someone without their knowledge
• Manipulating someone’s social circle

b.Teasing or bullying?

Teasing among friends is not considered bullying.
Yet teasing—even harmless teasing—can turn into bullying if it’s hurtful and causes your friend distress.
Tip: If your friend doesn’t find your teasing funny anymore, and feels hurt and humiliated by your continuous insults, this could be considered bullying!
Straight to the heart. Like all violent behaviours, bullying is serious and may have serious consequences—for the victims, aggressors, and witnesses alike.
