Sexual orientation

Do you think you’re homosexual?

Awareness
You may think you’re homosexual because you’ve had a prolonged romantic and sexual interest in people of the same sex. The stigma attached to this and the fear of rejection may make it more difficult to accept your sexual orientation.

This acceptance often occurs in various phases: denial, talking about it, choosing who to tell, and accepting it.

Denial
You may want to step back and act as if you weren’t aware of it. Maybe uncertainty is easier for you to deal with. This phase is normal and may last for some time.

Friends like you
You may feel like meeting other guys or girls who are going through the same thing as you are. Talking about it can help break your isolation.

Two lives: public and private
You may choose to have a private life with those who are aware of your sexual orientation, and a public life where you remain more discreet about the subject. You have the right to not talk about it and to wait until you’re comfortable with this new reality before revealing it to those close to you or to other people you deal with.

Acceptance
The more open you are to differences, the more at ease you’ll feel in accepting your homosexuality. Accepting your sexual orientation will make you feel comfortable with yourself and be able to fully embrace your sexuality. Everyone is entitled to respect and love regardless of their sexual orientation.
