[ My best friend guy is inlove with my best friend girl ]

Nicky - girl - 16 ans (29 November 2009)

Hello. I have a best friend a guy and a best friend a girl. I kind of have and it has been a long time that I have feelings for my best friend ( guy ) and my best friend (girl) knows that. Few days ago when we all four hanged out, he told me he is inlove with my best friend ( girl ). I feel terribly down. He wants to ask her out and Im sure she would say yes. They are also going to prom together which will ruin my prom as well. They are the only people that really understand me. I dont know what to do exactly because I dont want them to be sad or feel sad for me? Im terribly lost. Help me out. =( Thank you

Hello Nicky! Let's look at this situation together.

I understand that this is a difficult situation for you. You know Nicky, knowing that the guy you're in love with loves one of your friends can be very painful. It's normal to feel lost and down. The process of mourning for a lost love comprises several stages. Did you know it looks a lot like any kind of grief? To learn more about it, I invite you to check the following section of our web site: http://en.teljeunes.com/get-informed/healthy-mind/grief. Remember it is normal to feel sad, angry, guilty, etc. Give yourself the time to deal with these emotions. Eventually, you will feel better, but you must take one step at a time.

At the end of your message, you're wondering what to do about all this. Tell me, what do you wish to do? What do you think you can do? In this kind of situation, we can either decide to talk about it with the people involved...or not. Do you think it could help you to talk about it with your friends? It is ok to let them know that this situation is difficult for you. You don't have to act like you don’t care about it. Do you think they could be more subtle when they're around you? Maybe your behaviour will change for a while when you're around them, and it is normal. Do you think it would help to let them know why you are acting this way?

I'll let you think about it. Don't hesitate to call us if you wish to talk with a counsellor. Take care!
