[ Can I be pregnant ]

Adriana - girl - 18 ans (20 February 2012)

So, I am sexually active. Me and my boyfriend always use protection. (condom) so my period was due for the 10th of February and got my period on the 5th. And usually my period is always regular. Although this time it was early and very light. Not enough to feel a pad nor a tampon. And it lasted 3 days when ussualy it is 6 days. And so, I also started about a week ago to have lower adominal pain. The pain is like a pressure on my lower right side. I don't know if it is in relation to this. And finally over the weekend( starte on Thursday) I started to have very sore breast. Like if their was bruses. They are sore and swollen. So I do not know if it was my actual period? And if it is, what is the explanation of my breast and pain in my lower stomach? Thank you

Hello Adriana,

For a risk of pregnancy to be present, sperm or pre-ejaculatory fluid needs to get in contact with the vagina. However, you mention using a condom. Tell me, did you use this contraception method properly? You know, when taken as prescribed the level of efficiency is very high (+/- 97%). In fact, most failures are due to improper use. Do you feel reassured?

You also need to know that not having our periods is the first reliable sing of pregnancy. Others symptoms such as sore breasts or nausea can't be taken seriously because they are too alike other clinical diagnosis. Did you know it? Yet, you said you had your periods. That means your egg has not been fertilized. Nevertheless, your periods were unusual... Do you know some factors such as fatigue, stress, fear of being pregnant or intense activity can influence one's cycle? Can some of these factors explain your unusual periods?

If your next periods are 7 days late, I recommand you to take a pregnancy test (before that the test might not be efficient). After all, the only way to be sure whether or not you’re pregnant is to take a pregnancy test! Do you agree? If you're still worried do not diagnose yourself! You can contact a nurse from info sante (you just have to dial 8.1.1.). This health specialist can help you!

Don’t hesitate to call us if you need more information. Take care!
