Arular - girl - 16 ans (2 December 2008)

i think i might have an STI, but i don't have a gynochologist.. i don't want to ask my mother if she can take me to see hers because then it will look suspicious.. is there a way that i can get tests without my mother knowing? it's really hard to admit to being sexually active, should i just tell my mother? i'm afraid she'd be really mad. and what if i do have an STI, what do i do to get rid of it,are these things fatal?

Hello Arular! Let’s look at this situation together.

You want to know if it’s possible to get tested for STIs without your mom knowing about it. Did you know that it’s possible for you to see a doctor even if you don’t have the authorization of your mother? To get tested, you could make an appointment at your local CLSC. If they cannot do this kind of test, they will probably be able to refer you. Tell me, is there a nurse at your school? If it’s the case, you could talk to her about this situation.

The important thing is to get tested to know if you actually have an STI. If so, the health professional you’ll see will explain to you the symptoms, the treatments and what to do not to infect somebody else. If you don’t feel like you have all the information you need, don’t hesitate to ask. Also, you could have a look at the website www.masexualite.ca where you’ll find a section called “Sexually Transmitted Infections”.

Tell me, do you prefer telling your mom about it? If that’s the case and you wish to have support about it, don’t hesitate to write back or to call us. We’re there for you 24/7 at 1 800 263-2266.

Take care Arular!
