[ The pills ]

troubledkitty - girl - 15 ans (20 May 2011)

Hi, me and my boyfriend are really in love, and I can tell he really does care about me and doesn't want to push things. But, I've already had sex and I told my mother. But now, I want to take the pill. She doesn't want me to take it ! How can I convince her to let me take the pills and convince her that I'm mature enough to know to have sex with a condom ? Also, when we are at home and he sleeps over, my mom doesn't want us in the same bed. But all my friends are aloud. It's not fair !! I try to convince her that we won't have sex, she doesn't have confidence in me... Please help ! Is she right about keeping me and my boyfriend from not having sex ?

Hi there!

Thank you for trusting us!

Did you know that 14 and older teenage girls can get the pill without their parents' permission? Did you also know that you can get a six months prescription from the nurse at your high school? After that, you will need to see a doctor to get another prescription, and your medical file is supposed to remain confidential. Does this information help you?

Generally speaking, parents want what is best for their children. They also have the responsability of educating and protecting their children to the best of their knowledge. Have you considered that your mother might be trying to protect you? Each parent has personnal beliefs, values and perceptions. As we grow, we might discover that we have different beliefs, values and perceptions, and sometimes conflicts happen. The challenge here is to have respect even if we disagree. Your mother has the right to ask you to respect her rules at home, and it might seem unfair to you, but would you be willing to trust her judgement?

You can call us 24/7 if you want to talk more about this. Do not hesitate!
