Who are we ?

LigneParents is the alter ego of Tel-jeunes for parents. An intervention service, free, confidential, available day and night, and provided by professional counselors to all parents of children aged 0 to -20 years old in Quebec.

Parents receive through LigneParents support in resolving their family issues, answers to their questions, and help in crisis situations. Thanks to its immediate interactive approach, LigneParents serves as a reference at any time.

LigneParents was founded under the name Parents Anonymes in 1981, with a desire to eliminate taboos in dealing with parent-child relationships, and a need to cast a new light on family interactions. Twenty-nine years on, LigneParents, through the work of its professional and experienced counselors, remains a prominent source of professional and personalized support for distressed parents.

Without ever passing judgement, the professional counselors at LigneParents adapt their intervention methods to each caller’s individual situation in order to help fathers and mothers take action, whatever the case may be. Often confronted with feelings of powerlessness or guilt, parents – with a counsellor’s assistance – can find new ways to regain confidence in their parenting role.

In 2009-2010, LigneParents supported 13 958 parents from across Quebec:

• 85% were women and
• 15% were men

From different family structures:

• 53% from two parent families
• 34% from single parent families
• 10% from recomposed families
• 3% others.

Average duration of a phone call at LigneParents: 16.55 minutes

69% of parents who have contacted LigneParents in 2009-2010 did it for the first time. This means that 31% of parents returned to seek help

Family relationships demystified!

Almost 47% of calls from parents to LigneParents treat of family relationships. It is by far the main reason for calling! But what exactly are these parents talking about?

• The most discussed topic is infant and young child’s care (14% of total calls). These parents need information or support on the "two years crisis ", the routine of sleep, toilet training or night time fears.
• -Parents also worry about family rules and parental authority (8.9% of total questions). They questioned the discipline of their children, curfews, chores, bedtime ... Confronted daily, parents may tend to put their own authority in question or need to let go. They often need to be reassured and to know they are normal.
• 3.2% of parents contact LigneParents because they have run out of resources. Some live a situation that is beyond them, or need to calm a crisis. They suffer from isolation or have difficulty managing their emotions. In distress, they need support, and to verbalize their emotions.

Famous Quebec’s humorist and comedian, Claude Meunier has been LigneParents’s spokeperson since the very beginning 29 years ago. His down to earth and humoristic approach has brought numerous parents to confide in LigneParents through the years.
